Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA-
The Commanders turned the phones into found money: B+.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Commanders would have aced it. Ben Sinnott at pick No. 100 is 43 spots clear of where he belonged.

However the rest shakes out, Simpson at that price is a win they earned. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and interior defensive lineman still on the board. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 27th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 36 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick38 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
They reached a country mile for Chris Braswell at No. 38, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick40 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Legette in pick 40. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A reach on Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ben Sinnott. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick102 Rnd4 Mike Sainristil
You do not let a cornerback like Mike Sainristil reach Round 4, Pick 2 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in slot 104 leaves running back and interior defensive lineman for later.
Pick141 Rnd5 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine in the 141st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
The board fumbled Jaylin Simpson all the way to pick No. 181, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick189 Rnd6 AJ Barner
No drama and no debate, AJ Barner went about where he belonged in the 189th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick223 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at pick 223 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
