Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureA
The Commanders fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Commanders, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hartman. The Barner reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Adding Khalil Mack by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Joe Alt and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In pick 6 they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
They did well to land Tyler Nubin in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick37
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
They took Tyler Guyton at par in No. 37, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick40
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in slot 40 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick47
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in Round 2, Pick 15; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick69
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at pick No. 69. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick100
Rnd3
Audric Estime
Audric Estime in the 100th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick102
Rnd4
DeWayne Carter
DeWayne Carter at the 102nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick141
Rnd5
James Williams
Good price on James Williams in Round 5, Pick 5, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick181
Rnd6
AJ Barner
AJ Barner in pick 181 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
