Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Commanders.

The Commanders did not so much draft Keyron Crawford as overpay for him, 32 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Stowers falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The back end got a real overhaul.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. More want than need.
Pick71 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in the 71st pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
A tidy little value on Domani Jackson in pick No. 145, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185 Rnd6 Dane Key
Dane Key in pick 185 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196 Rnd6 Keyron Crawford
Keyron Crawford at the 196th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick223 Rnd7 Roderick Kearney
A reach on Roderick Kearney in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
