Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureB-
The Commanders won the night they stopped Johnson from sliding. Grade: B-. Thirty-one other rooms let Emmett Johnson slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at pick No. 128. Highway robbery. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 7th overall pick they get a two-high chess piece. More want than need.
Pick128
Rnd4
Emmett Johnson
They robbed the room for Emmett Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick145
Rnd5
Eli Raridon
A tight end of that caliber at pick 145 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kevin Coleman Jr. at the Round 5 slot is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185
Rnd6
Keyshaun Elliott
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keyshaun Elliott. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick196
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at Round 6, Pick 17 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at slot 223 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
