FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Commanders: B-. Everything else got attention, and tight end got none. That is a strange way for the Commanders to leave a draft. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Reaching for Campbell left real value on the table behind him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Robinson.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Peter Woods
Peter Woods at the 7th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick71
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick146
Rnd5
Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne in No. 146 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick188
Rnd6
Duce Robinson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Duce Robinson in the 188th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick197
Rnd6
Josh Moten
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Moten. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick223
Rnd7
Amare Campbell
A premium they did not need to pay, Amare Campbell a notch or two before his time. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
