Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B

Grand theft in the 236th pick: the Commanders steal Simon and grade out a B.

Somebody in Round 7, Pick 20 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Cody Simon, the No. 127 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The Igbinosun pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with tight end the one that mattered most.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In the 27th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at pick No. 60 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick79 Rnd3 Hollin Pierce
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hollin Pierce in the Round 3 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick146 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Value said wait; Davison Igbinosun in No. 146 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick202 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in Round 6, Pick 27 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick236 Rnd7 Cody Simon
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 236 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick246 Rnd7 Jake Briningstool
Steal is underselling it; Jake Briningstool at the 246th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
