FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Commanders: B-. There is reaching, and then there is Derrick Moore at pick No. 71. The Commanders jumped the board by 29 and dared it to prove them wrong. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Jack Gibbens deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick52
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman slid further than he should have, and No. 52 is lovely value for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick62
Rnd2
Deontae Lawson
They did well to land Deontae Lawson in pick 62, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick71
Rnd3
Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick120
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zachariah Branch at pick No. 120 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick145
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in Round 5, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick168
Rnd5
Miles Kitselman
Miles Kitselman at the 168th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185
Rnd6
Isaiah Jatta
They paid up for Isaiah Jatta at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick196
Rnd6
Miller Moss
The board had Miller Moss higher than the 196th pick, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick223
Rnd7
Lawson Luckie
Good price on Lawson Luckie in No. 223, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick257
Rnd7
Raymond Cottrell
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Raymond Cottrell at the 257th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
