Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Commanders. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Commanders never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.
Lawson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
Caleb Downs in Round 1, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick71
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in slot 71 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick146
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Nothing to complain about; Kage Casey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick186
Rnd6
Oscar Delp
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Oscar Delp at pick 186 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick197
Rnd6
DJ Harvey
They did well to land DJ Harvey in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick223
Rnd7
Barion Brown
They let Barion Brown come to them and pounced at No. 223. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
