Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Commanders to a B-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Derrick Moore at pick 63 is 35 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick63 Rnd2 Derrick Moore
A big swing on Derrick Moore at the 63rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71 Rnd3 Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane in slot 71 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick125 Rnd4 Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor in No. 125 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at pick No. 145 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jamal Haynes
Jamal Haynes at Round 6, Pick 6 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick196 Rnd6 Charles Jagusah
Somehow Charles Jagusah was still sitting there in No. 196, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223 Rnd7 Isaac Smith
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaac Smith in the 223rd pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
