Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesA FutureA
Good, not great, for the Commanders: B+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Commanders reached some 47 spots for Charles Jagusah, and value like that does not grow back.

The Lew value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

The Dion Dawkins deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In the Round 1 slot they get a seam-stretching tight end. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60 Rnd2 Derrick Moore
A real head-scratcher, Derrick Moore in pick 60 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71 Rnd3 Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane at pick No. 71 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick91 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Somehow Connor Lew was still sitting there in No. 91, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick126 Rnd4 Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at Round 4, Pick 26 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick145 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Xavier Nwankpa well ahead of where he belonged. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick185 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
No drama and no debate, Raylen Wilson went about where he belonged in the 185th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick196 Rnd6 Josh Cuevas
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Cuevas. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick223 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Roman Hemby. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
