The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Judkins: B+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Quinshon Judkins got past him. The Colts do not have to explain a thing at the 150th overall pick.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Reed-Adams proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Adding Mike Gesicki by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the 13th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
Pick43
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at slot 43 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick79
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at No. 79 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick115
Rnd4
Deontae Lawson
They robbed the room for Deontae Lawson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
Taking Danny Stutsman in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick150
Rnd5
Quinshon Judkins
A running back of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 12 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick188
Rnd6
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams in pick No. 188 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick227
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at pick 227 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
