The steal of the weekend belongs to the Colts and Bortolini: B+. You build a draft on nights like this. Tanor Bortolini had no business being available in slot 201, and the Colts did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The cost of the Richardson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 54 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick79
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
Taking Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt in No. 117 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick142
Rnd5
Decamerion Richardson
Decamerion Richardson at the 142nd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick151
Rnd5
Erick All
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Erick All in pick No. 151, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164
Rnd5
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo in slot 164 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick201
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini in the 201st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
