Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesD FutureB
Nelson should have been long gone. The Colts pounced, and earned a B-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jack Nelson, the No. 170 name on the board, stolen at slot 234. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The McLaughlin reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Colston Loveland
In the 26th overall pick they get a mismatch in the passing game. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62 Rnd2 Dylan Sampson
A straight-up fair deal on Dylan Sampson at pick No. 62, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick80 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
They paid up for Ashton Gillotte at slot 80 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick90 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
A reasonable price with a little left over, Carson Schwesinger in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116 Rnd4 Kurtis Rourke
A real head-scratcher, Kurtis Rourke in No. 116 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at Round 4, Pick 25 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick152 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce in pick 152 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick191 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
This one needs a full-page explanation: Seth McLaughlin in the 191st pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jack Nelson
They robbed the room for Jack Nelson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
