FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Colts. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Desmond Reid, 48 picks early at slot 154.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Davis pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still on the board.
The Styles pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick47
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at the 47th pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick78
Rnd3
Julian Neal
Julian Neal at pick 78 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick113
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tacario Davis adds a cornerback and leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick154
Rnd5
Desmond Reid
Desmond Reid at pick No. 154 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick216
Rnd6
Tosh Baker
They reached a country mile for Tosh Baker at No. 216, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick230
Rnd7
Kamran James
They talked themselves into Kamran James at Round 7, Pick 14, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick253
Rnd7
Fred Davis II
Fred Davis II at the 253rd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
