Draft Grade — Colts
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Colts to a C.

The phones were a trap the Colts kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

The cost of the Johnson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

On value alone, Worthy makes the weekend a net positive.

Hit on Brian Thomas Jr. and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
No drama and no debate, Brian Thomas Jr. went about where he belonged in the 22nd pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick46 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
No edge and no loss on Braden Fiske in the 46th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick65 Rnd3 Xavier Worthy
A tidy bit of business in pick 65, where Xavier Worthy graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74 Rnd3 Austin Booker
Austin Booker at No. 74 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
A big swing on Theo Johnson at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick118 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
A reach on Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 118; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick147 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
They took Roger Rosengarten at par in Round 5, Pick 11, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick150 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at slot 150 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at pick No. 195, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick234 Rnd7 Keaton Bills
Keaton Bills at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
