The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Worthy: B+. Call it larceny. Xavier Worthy sat on the board until the Round 3 slot, and the Colts did not need to be asked twice.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If Johnson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In the 24th pick they get a centerfielder for the defense at fair value. More want than need.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at No. 46 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick82
Rnd3
Xavier Worthy
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Worthy at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Nice patience on Dominick Puni, who had no business lasting to pick 117. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick119
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
They reached into another round for Theo Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick153
Rnd5
Javon Foster
They barely believed it either: Javon Foster still on the board at the 153rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick157
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 21 with a little surplus value in Jaylan Ford. The roster fit checks out.
Pick193
Rnd6
Christian Jones
A quiet steal in pick No. 193: Christian Jones for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick216
Rnd6
Zakhari Franklin
They took Zakhari Franklin at par in Round 6, Pick 41, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick235
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
They liked Edefuan Ulofoshio enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 235. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
