FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Colts, and a C+ to match. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Ty'Ron Hopper at the 138th overall pick is 39 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Stover pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, running back and other spots. Fletcher Cox gives the group a proven body among the projects.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In pick 22 they get a sticky cover corner. More want than need.
Pick46
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
They paid a round early for Xavier Worthy in the 46th pick, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick53
Rnd2
Austin Booker
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Austin Booker well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick65
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
They went early on Michael Hall Jr. in Round 3, Pick 1, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick82
Rnd3
Cade Stover
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 82 on Cade Stover with quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick118
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at slot 118 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick122
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick138
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Value said wait; Ty'Ron Hopper in the 138th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
They liked Jaylan Ford enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 6. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
