Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
The phones sank the Colts this weekend: D+.

The tape said wait; the Colts did not. Javontae Jean-Baptiste went at the Round 6 slot, a good 36 picks before the board was ready. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Gray falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In No. 18 they get a lockdown presence outside. More want than need.
Pick19 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In slot 19 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick82 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. in the 82nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick116 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
No drama and no debate, Sataoa Laumea went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 16. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick118 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
They talked themselves into Theo Johnson at pick 118, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick148 Rnd5 Cedric Gray
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 148 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick150 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
They paid a round early for Mason McCormick in Round 5, Pick 14, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick193 Rnd6 Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Javontae Jean-Baptiste at the 193rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick232 Rnd7 Josh Proctor
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Proctor at slot 232. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
