The Colts lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Colts, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Put together, it is a D-.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The cost of the Worthy reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The T.J. Slaton pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 25th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick 27 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
They talked themselves into Xavier Worthy at slot 35, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick58
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at No. 58, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jonah Elliss
No drama and no debate, Jonah Elliss went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at Round 4, Pick 17 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick151
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at the 151st pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick162
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in pick No. 162 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick191
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
They paid a round early for Joe Milton III in the 191st overall pick, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick234
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
No edge and no loss on Edefuan Ulofoshio in Round 7, Pick 14; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
