FutureB
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Colts a B-. Everything else got attention, and quarterback got none. That is a strange way for the Colts to leave a draft. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
On value alone, Gore Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean at the 15th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick82
Rnd3
Javon Baker
They paid a round early for Javon Baker in slot 82, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick118
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at the 118th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick150
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 150. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jordan Jefferson
A tidy little value on Jordan Jefferson in pick 193, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick232
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Frank Gore Jr. at Round 7, Pick 12. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
