Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Colts won the night they stopped Higgins from sliding. Grade: B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Colts were there to profit. Jay Higgins, the No. 137 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 6 slot.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In pick 22 they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick51 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
They did well to land Xavier Watts in pick No. 51, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick55 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at slot 55 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick80 Rnd3 Darien Porter
Darien Porter in the 80th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick86 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Andrew Mukuba at safety with quarterback, running back and other spots open.
Pick116 Rnd4 Charles Grant
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Charles Grant at the 116th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152 Rnd5 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick191 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
They will replay Jay Higgins at No. 191 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick234 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
A tidy bit of business in slot 234, where Theo Wease Jr. graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
