Draft Grade — Colts
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Colts to a C+.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Colts started one anyway for Nathaniel Watson, 47 picks ahead of schedule.

That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, running back and other spots still on the board.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In No. 15 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick46 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
A conviction pick on Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 46th pick that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick82 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick No. 82 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick117 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in pick 117 leaves quarterback, running back and other spots for later.
Pick119 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick153 Rnd5 Tyrice Knight
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Tyrice Knight in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick154 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
A tidy little value on Theo Johnson in the 154th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick193 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at pick 193 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
