Draft Grade — Colts
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB
The Colts answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: D.

The phones were a trap the Colts kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D.

Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. With running back, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the 1st overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick15 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
In the 15th pick they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
They read the board right and Tyler Guyton was the payoff at pick 36. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
They did well to land Keon Coleman in slot 40, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick46 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
They bypassed pressing needs at running back, tight end and other spots to take T.J. Tampa, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick75 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at pick No. 75 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick82 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Khyree Jackson while clear needs at running back, tight end and other spots sat open.
Pick118 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
No drama and no debate, Sataoa Laumea went about where he belonged in No. 118. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123 Rnd4 James Williams
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 23 with a little surplus value in James Williams. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick150 Rnd5 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau at the 150th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick193 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick No. 193 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick232 Rnd7 Andrew Raym
Andrew Raym in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
