The Colts let Wilson fall into their laps, and walked away with a C. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Roman Wilson got past him. The Colts do not have to explain a thing at the Round 4 slot. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. If Johnson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Hit on Adonai Mitchell and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In pick 26 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick46
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette slid further than he should have, and the 46th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick58
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They did well to land Ja'Tavion Sanders in slot 58, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick78
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They jumped the gun on Zak Zinter, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick82
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
They talked themselves into Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 82, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
They went early on Dominick Puni in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick118
Rnd4
Roman Wilson
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Roman Wilson in the 118th pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
They reached a country mile for Theo Johnson at No. 127, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
The board had cheaper options than Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 150, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
