Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
Lachey should have been long gone. The Colts pounced, and earned a B+.

The real work happened on the phones. The Colts fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

On value alone, Lachey makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Reaching for Gray left real value on the table behind him.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the 14th pick they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick54 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Circle this one: Derrick Harmon at slot 54 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick80 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at pick 80 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in Round 4, Pick 17 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick151 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
They jumped the gun on Ty Robinson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
They robbed the room for Luke Lachey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick250 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. in the 250th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
