FutureB-
Reed should have been long gone. The Colts pounced, and earned a B. The Colts did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jaylen Reed fell into No. 234. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Alexander reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In slot 20 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in No. 45, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick51
Rnd2
Marcus Mbow
A straight-up fair deal on Marcus Mbow at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
By-the-book stuff, Carson Schwesinger at Round 3, Pick 16 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick116
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Skattebo in pick 116. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick121
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at the 121st pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick152
Rnd5
Kurtis Rourke
Kurtis Rourke slid further than he should have, and pick No. 152 is lovely value for the quarterback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick191
Rnd6
Roc Taylor
Roc Taylor at the 191st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed in the 234th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
