msc_blg DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Thomas: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Azareye'h Thomas, the No. 57 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 3, Pick 36.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Slater pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In pick No. 11 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Mike Green
Mike Green in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in Round 3, Pick 11 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
Somehow Azareye'h Thomas was still sitting there in pick 100, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick113
Rnd4
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at slot 113 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater in No. 138 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147
Rnd5
Cam Skattebo
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at the 147th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick160
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
No edge and no loss on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 160th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick227
Rnd7
Caleb Ransaw
A safety of that caliber at the 227th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick249
Rnd7
Dante Trader Jr.
They read the board right and Dante Trader Jr. was the payoff at No. 249. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick252
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A straight-up fair deal on Teddye Buchanan at slot 252, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
