Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall B

The Broncos drew a line under the quarterback search with McCarthy: B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Broncos spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Capehart has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On value alone, Lovett makes the weekend a net positive.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In the 26th pick they get a franchise quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick35 Rnd2 Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at Round 3, Pick 12 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jacob Cowing
A reach on Jacob Cowing in No. 89; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick113 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at slot 113 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick122 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
No drama and no debate, Kris Abrams-Draine went about where he belonged in pick 122. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick140 Rnd5 Jahdae Barron
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jahdae Barron in the 140th overall pick, miles early. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick149 Rnd5 Cam Hart
Cam Hart in pick No. 149 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick225 Rnd7 Dominic Lovett
They robbed the room for Dominic Lovett here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick233 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
A conviction pick on Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick No. 233 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at slot 241 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
