The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Arnold: B+. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jackson Arnold, the No. 206 name on the board, stolen at slot 236.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and running back. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Joshua Josephs
In the 28th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brian Parker II
Brian Parker II in pick No. 75 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick91
Rnd3
Austin Siereveld
A straight-up fair deal on Austin Siereveld at Round 3, Pick 27, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick106
Rnd4
Adon Shuler
Fair-plus on Adon Shuler, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick107
Rnd4
Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in pick 107 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick125
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Nothing to complain about; Zachariah Branch went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick131
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Good price on Tacario Davis in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick132
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
A reasonable price with a little left over, Charles Jagusah in No. 132. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick139
Rnd4
Terry Moore
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and running back still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 39 on Terry Moore, a safety they were not short of.
Pick145
Rnd5
Blake Miller
Nice patience on Blake Miller, who had no business lasting to pick 145. It fills a real need, too.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jyaire Hill
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jyaire Hill at slot 155 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick156
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
Value with a capital V on Eric Rivers in pick No. 156, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse at the 178th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick204
Rnd6
Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jackson Arnold
A quarterback of that caliber at No. 236 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick243
Rnd7
Jerry Wilson
They took Jerry Wilson at par in the 243rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
