Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureB
The Vikings let Bernard fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Vikings fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They banked enough surplus on Bernard to cover a lot of smaller sins. Spending an early pick on cornerback with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick46
Rnd2
Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette in slot 46 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jonah Coleman
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jonah Coleman in pick 57. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick61
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
The board had cheaper options than Michael Taaffe at Round 2, Pick 29, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick80
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 80 on Malik Muhammad with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
Pick92
Rnd3
Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard at the 92nd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick93
Rnd3
Cayden Green
A straight-up fair deal on Cayden Green at the 93rd pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick97
Rnd3
Whit Weeks
They took Whit Weeks at par in slot 97, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick127
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
They did well to land Charles Jagusah in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Jaishawn Barham in Round 4, Pick 38 leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick152
Rnd5
Blake Miller
The board had Blake Miller higher than No. 152, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick169
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
Somehow Chase Roberts was still sitting there in the 169th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The roster fit checks out.
