The Browns bet the future on McCarthy. The board says F. The Browns clearly saw something nobody else did in Brandon Coleman, taking him 46 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
