Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B+
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA
The Browns robbed the room for Skattebo. Final grade: B+. The Browns spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cam Skattebo, the No. 105 name on the board, in the 214th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The Howard pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Tyler Smith deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ashton Jeanty at No. 12. It fills a real need, too.
Pick33
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka slid further than he should have, and the 33rd overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick44
Rnd2
Will Howard
Will Howard in slot 44 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick45
Rnd2
Isaiah Bond
A conviction pick on Isaiah Bond at pick 45 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick76
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in pick No. 76 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick94
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They will replay Andrew Mukuba at the 94th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick102
Rnd4
Savion Williams
Fair-plus on Savion Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater at Round 5, Pick 26 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick190
Rnd6
Ty Hamilton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ty Hamilton. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214
Rnd6
Cam Skattebo
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in the 214th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick250
Rnd7
Jalen Rivers
They talked themselves into Jalen Rivers at pick 250, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick256
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at the 256th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
