The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 123 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Everette to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
