The Bears did not so much draft Xavier Thomas as overpay for him, 40 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Rattler pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
