FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Chiefs and Lane: B+. The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Ja'Kobi Lane fell into No. 74. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Adding Braden Fiske by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 13th pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick74
Rnd3
Ja'Kobi Lane
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 74 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jack Endries
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Endries in pick No. 109. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick110
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in pick 110 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse at the 147th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick226
Rnd7
Kevin Jennings
They let Kevin Jennings come to them and pounced at slot 226. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick247
Rnd7
Rueben Owens II
Rueben Owens II at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick251
Rnd7
Jaylon Braxton
By-the-book stuff, Jaylon Braxton at Round 7, Pick 35 squarely in line with his ranking. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick255
Rnd7
Luke Hasz
They paid sticker price for Luke Hasz in the 255th overall pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
