Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Chiefs: B.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Garrett Dellinger, 35 picks ahead of schedule.

On value alone, Hampton makes the weekend a net positive. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick35 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Josh Conerly Jr. at slot 35, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 63 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick66 Rnd3 JT Tuimoloau
A slide stopped in No. 66, with JT Tuimoloau worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick95 Rnd3 Darien Porter
They barely believed it either: Darien Porter still on the board at the 95th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick103 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick120 Rnd4 Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones in pick 120 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139 Rnd5 Logan Brown
Logan Brown at the 139th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick187 Rnd6 DJ Giddens
A quiet steal in pick 187: DJ Giddens for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
They paid sticker price for Jermari Harris in the 226th overall pick, and that is fine. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick251 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
They paid a round early for Marcus Yarns in No. 251, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick257 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
