Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureF
The Chiefs let Cooper Jr. fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chiefs came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Cooper Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Reaching for Igbinosun left real value on the table behind him.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
Caleb Downs at slot 13 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick15 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 15th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. A real need, handled.
Pick46 Rnd2 Jonah Coleman
They paid sticker price for Jonah Coleman in No. 46, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick77 Rnd3 Max Klare
A reasonable price with a little left over, Max Klare in the 77th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick114 Rnd4 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick153 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
A big swing on Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 153, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick176 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
They jumped the gun on Jermaine Mathews Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick237 Rnd7 James Smith
James Smith at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick246 Rnd7 Bear Alexander
A conviction pick on Bear Alexander at pick No. 246 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick257 Rnd7 Brandon Inniss
No drama and no debate, Brandon Inniss went about where he belonged in No. 257. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
