Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall

ValueB
NeedA-

FutureA
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Chiefs to a D+. The phones were a trap the Chiefs kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Trotter makes the weekend a net positive.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
Makai Lemon at pick No. 18 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick29
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup weapon at tight end, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
They paid sticker price for Caleb Banks in Round 2, Pick 8, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
They let Josiah Trotter come to them and pounced at the 74th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Zachariah Branch at slot 91. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens at No. 146 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick234
Rnd7
Robert Henry Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Robert Henry Jr. at pick 234 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
