The Chiefs cashed the board's mistake on Dixon: B. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Johnny Dixon, No. 248, roughly 48 picks past where he belonged.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Ladd McConkey
In the 32nd overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick64
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 64 with a little surplus value in T.J. Tampa. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick95
Rnd3
Roger Rosengarten
No edge and no loss on Roger Rosengarten in the 95th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in slot 133 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick159
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Luke McCaffrey graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
By-the-book stuff, Jaheim Bell at No. 173 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick221
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal slipping to pick 221 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick248
Rnd7
Johnny Dixon
Johnny Dixon in Round 7, Pick 28 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
