GWG5 DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Roman Hemby in the 239th pick.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Reese steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick57
Rnd2
Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at pick No. 57 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89
Rnd3
Chase Bisontis
A conviction pick on Chase Bisontis at the 89th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick129
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hezekiah Masses. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163
Rnd5
Reggie Virgil
Reggie Virgil in slot 163 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick239
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
They reached a country mile for Roman Hemby at the 239th pick, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at No. 241 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
