Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Bears bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Seth McLaughlin; the Bears did not wait, grabbing him 51 spots ahead at slot 189.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Will Campbell
They did well to land Will Campbell in the 14th pick, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick39 Rnd2 Mike Green
Mike Green is a better player than No. 39 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41 Rnd2 Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum in the 41st overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick57 Rnd2 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at pick No. 57 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick72 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in pick 72 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick99 Rnd3 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at Round 3, Pick 35 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick102 Rnd4 Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel at the 102nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
A big swing on Rylie Mills at No. 110, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick149 Rnd5 Mello Dotson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mello Dotson in the 149th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 189 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
