Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent pick 207 on Dasan McCullough, a name the board had a full 33 spots lower. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Thompson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick62 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at pick No. 62 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
They went early on Monroe Freeling in pick 94, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick125 Rnd4 Logan Jones
Logan Jones at the 125th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick130 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
A tidy bit of business in No. 130, where Michael Trigg graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick168 Rnd5 Brenen Thompson
Nice patience on Brenen Thompson, who had no business lasting to the 168th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick189 Rnd6 Quinten Joyner
Quinten Joyner in the 189th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200 Rnd6 Jerry Wilson
They jumped the gun on Jerry Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick207 Rnd6 Dasan McCullough
They reached into another round for Dasan McCullough, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick209 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trey Zuhn III at the 209th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246 Rnd7 Micah Morris
Micah Morris at pick No. 246 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
