CheeseBurger Dlx. DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. The Chiefs treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 5, Pick 36 on Josh Moten a full 28 spots early. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Hubbard where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerpiece for the ground game. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Trevor Goosby
A premium they did not need to pay, Trevor Goosby a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
They went early on Omar Cooper Jr. in the 76th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick114
Rnd4
Gabe Jacas
A quiet steal in No. 114: Gabe Jacas for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick153
Rnd5
Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 13 is lovely value for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick176
Rnd5
Josh Moten
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Josh Moten. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
