Fat Pat's Crew DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs cashed the board's mistake on Moore: B. When a board-topper like Malachi Moore slides to the 251st overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Brown pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 31 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick63
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in the 63rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick66
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Good price on Dylan Sampson in the 66th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick95
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Nothing to complain about; Charles Grant went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick133
Rnd4
Logan Brown
Logan Brown in pick 133 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick226
Rnd7
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They will replay Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 226 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick251
Rnd7
Malachi Moore
Circle this one: Malachi Moore at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick257
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Fair-plus on Hayden Conner, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
