Draft Grade — Seahawks

FutureB
Grand theft in pick No. 249: the Seahawks steal Chambers and grade out a B. Thirty-one other rooms let Steele Chambers slide, and the Seahawks were the ones holding the card at the 249th overall pick. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They will need Taylor to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In No. 29 they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that.
Pick61
Rnd2
Junior Colson
They read the board right and Junior Colson was the payoff at the 61st overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
They paid sticker price for Calen Bullock in pick 81, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at slot 98 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick102
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Nice patience on Dominick Puni, who had no business lasting to the 102nd pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick118
Rnd4
McKinnley Jackson
No edge and no loss on McKinnley Jackson in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at pick No. 119 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick179
Rnd6
Anthony Gould
Circle this one: Anthony Gould at Round 6, Pick 4 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick194
Rnd6
Grayson Murphy
They will replay Grayson Murphy at the 194th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick235
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 235 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick237
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
A big swing on Trey Taylor at the 237th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick249
Rnd7
Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
