Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Chargers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Elijhah Badger in pick No. 256, a good 36 spots before the room expected him. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Getting Reed where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In the 22nd overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at No. 59 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in slot 86 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick125 Rnd4 Sai'vion Jones
They reached into another round for Sai'vion Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick129 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
A big swing on Jackson Slater at Round 4, Pick 27, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick136 Rnd4 Damien Martinez
This one needs a full-page explanation: Damien Martinez in the Round 4 slot, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick158 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 158th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick176 Rnd5 Que Robinson
A conviction pick on Que Robinson at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick181 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in No. 181 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick199 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at slot 199 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed in pick 209 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick214 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at pick No. 214 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick243 Rnd7 Hunter Wohler
They reached a country mile for Hunter Wohler at Round 7, Pick 27, and the board is aghast. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick256 Rnd7 Elijhah Badger
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Elijhah Badger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
