Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall C
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Chargers to a C.

Nobody had LaDarius Henderson this high, and it is not close. The Chargers reached 54 spots to get him at pick No. 109.

On value alone, Bullard makes the weekend a net positive. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
In No. 11 they get a mismatch in the passing game at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick37 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Sedrick Van Pran. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
They went early on Roman Wilson in pick 69, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is a better player than Round 3, Pick 10 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick96 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in slot 96 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick106 Rnd4 Mike Sainristil
Steal is underselling it; Mike Sainristil at the 106th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109 Rnd4 LaDarius Henderson
They left a pile of value on the table to take LaDarius Henderson this early at slot 109. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139 Rnd5 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 139 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick142 Rnd5 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the 142nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick152 Rnd5 Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at the 152nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick183 Rnd6 Braiden McGregor
Braiden McGregor in No. 183 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 J.J. Weaver
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. Weaver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
