Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureD
Larceny in the 158th overall pick lands the Chargers a B-, Bowman Jr. and all.

Somebody in No. 158 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Billy Bowman Jr., the No. 116 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If Ratledge pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
A quiet steal in No. 39: Colston Loveland for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tate Ratledge. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick56 Rnd2 Deone Walker
A reach for Deone Walker in Round 2, Pick 24; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jared Ivey
A reach on Jared Ivey in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
They barely believed it either: Dylan Sampson still on the board at the 86th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick 125 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Nick Nash at pick No. 149 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick158 Rnd5 Billy Bowman Jr.
Billy Bowman Jr. in slot 158 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick181 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
A slide stopped in No. 181, with Quincy Riley worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick199 Rnd6 Donovan Edwards
A tidy bit of business in pick 199, where Donovan Edwards graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209 Rnd6 Isaac TeSlaa
A conviction pick on Isaac TeSlaa at Round 6, Pick 33 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214 Rnd6 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson in pick No. 214 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick218 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
A straight-up fair deal on Jermari Harris at slot 218, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick255 Rnd7 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
A big swing on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
