Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Chargers: B.

The Chargers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 124th overall pick on Que Robinson a full 123 spots early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

The Jones Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In the 23rd overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick55 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
Nothing to complain about; Marcus Mbow went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick86 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
The board had Omarr Norman-Lott higher than the Round 3 slot, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick87 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They paid sticker price for Donovan Jackson in slot 87, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick124 Rnd4 Que Robinson
Que Robinson in pick No. 124 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick159 Rnd5 Terrance Ferguson
Circle this one: Terrance Ferguson at pick 159 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick177 Rnd5 Damien Martinez
The board fumbled Damien Martinez all the way to Round 5, Pick 38, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick183 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at slot 183 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick201 Rnd6 Emery Jones Jr.
They will replay Emery Jones Jr. at pick No. 201 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215 Rnd6 Kyle Monangai
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kyle Monangai in pick 215. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
A premium they did not need to pay, Seth McLaughlin a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick253 Rnd7 Bryson Nesbit
A reach for Bryson Nesbit in the 253rd pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
