Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Chargers, and a B to prove it.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Collin Oliver at the Round 6 slot, a reach of 120 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.

Ransom falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick86 Rnd3 Jack Bech
They read the board right and Jack Bech was the payoff at slot 86. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Tate Ratledge in pick No. 97, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick136 Rnd4 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in No. 136 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick138 Rnd5 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at pick 138 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick157 Rnd5 Jake Majors
They will replay Jake Majors at pick 157 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick179 Rnd6 Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver in pick No. 179 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick197 Rnd6 Jared Wilson
Taking Jared Wilson in Round 6, Pick 22 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick208 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick213 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
The board fumbled Luke Lachey all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick214 Rnd6 Lathan Ransom
You do not let a safety like Lathan Ransom reach the 214th pick and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick218 Rnd7 Tyler Cooper
Tyler Cooper in slot 218 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Somehow Jack Kiser was still sitting there in No. 253, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
